Eliz and I had a fine morning with breakfast at Mallory's place in central Troy where we met Charlie (click for Chuckmonk's Blog) for a nice talk of casinos, fishing, poker, bread and soup, vegetables, and life in Troy. He brought along a fine gift of habanero peppers he grew, some hot sauce he created, and a sample of his garlic and tomatos. We enjoyed the old Troy landmark restaurant. Good eggs. Lots of coffee in the bottomless cup special.
But mostly we enjoyed Chuckmonk.
From there we all went over to the outdoor Farmer's Market on the river. It is still outside for a couple more weeks. Chuckmonk knows just about everybody there as he used to help set up and take down the exhibits. So we poked around and we also had a guided tour.
We bought a couple bags of groceries with the prime find in my opinion being those great little sweet, white turnip I used for my stews. Tonight we'll have a fine cauliflower and some great looking carrots. We also met an egg lady who will take the egg cartons I have been saving some someone for years.
It threatened rain, but there was none. The market was not well attended, perhaps due to the rain.
Charlie might come over to Greg's and play poker on Tuesday. That is going to be quite a game.
I was sorry to read Paul Newman died. He is one of my favorites. Years ago I loved, Cool Hand Luke, but I guess my favorite is Nobody's Fool which reflects life in small town upstate NY, (a city like Bath.) He reminded me a bit of my old buddy Dick Bull in that film.

Newman had a soft spot for underdogs in real life, giving tens of millions to charities through his food company and setting up camps for severely ill children. Passionately opposed to the Vietnam War, and in favor of civil rights, he was so famously liberal that he ended up on President Nixon's "enemies list," one of the actor's proudest achievements, he liked to say.
Well the sun is coming up, and I guess I'll grab a pole, bail the boat, and see if there are any hungry perch.
