We three went for a walk at Fort Cooper. We were bird watching at the wrong time of the day, but as a group we saw some black/brown duck that no one could name, and chickadee, tufted titmouse, red rump warblers and perhaps a black and white.
The walk was wonderful. The morning had been very cold, but the sun took that all away. The park was nearly deserted. The trail moved along a fine pond. It was beautiful.
The park is set in an old field hospital site during the Indian wars here, so there were historical markers.

It was all very beautiful; it is hard to imagine how much suffering occurred there a hundred years ago.
Chuck will remember the museum in Dade County where we went to hear bluegrass music. That was near where the Indians attacked and US soldiers in what is sometimes labeled a masacre, sometimes a skirmish, but if it had been done by the soldiers would have been called a military victory.
On the bulletin board at Fort Cooper there were photographs of General Scott and others on the white side, but no Seminoles. There are sometimes reenactments of the event at the park.

Then we did errands.
In the evening Elizabeth cooked the hogfish using Ann Marie's recipe with ginger and it was delicious. It is so wonderful to have this seafood here.
During the day we also made more social plans: We are meeting Steve Bourie who published me for two years now in the American Casino Guide. We will be meeting him on the East Coast and seeing a casino we have not visited. We'll stay a night near there so I can play a bit of poker that night.
Ron and Laura set times to come in early March, perhaps with the baby if Laura feels comfortable with that.
We also rented the pontoon for February and March and will do the paperwork later today. It can stay at the boat rental place until we get a slip in our second rental here.
And the book dealer who sold me the bad cookbook through Amazon is sending me a replacement copy and expediting the mailing, so it gets to me before we move. It pays to complain, but I wish I had waited on feedback to Amazon because it clearly was just a mistake and the attention to it has been amazingly responsible.
It was a very productive day.
However, I was up at about four this morning, so I'll need a good nap tomorrow.
